Chadbourne & Parke LLP continues its commitment to the Middle East-North Africa (“MENA”) region by selecting its fifth Chadbourne & Parke MENA Fellow. The Fellowship offers a $4,000 grant to help fund the summer internship of one J.D. or LL.M. student with a non-profit organization based in the US, UK or the MENA region.

The Fellowship Program: Chadbourne & Parke LLP (Chadbourne) is now seeking applications from interested J.D. and LL.M. students in the classes of 2015 & 2016.  Candidates should have outstanding academic credentials, strong communication skills and exhibit a strong interest in the region. Once selected, the Chadbourne & Parke MENA Fellow will receive a grant of $4,000 to fund a summer internship on the condition that the internship is conducted in a non-profit organization that assists in efforts to strengthen community relations, further education or healthcare, or foster economic, social or political reform in the MENA region. The organization can be local or international and the Fellow’s work must be legal in nature.  The organization cannot be governmental or intergovernmental.

The Application Process: Please submit a copy of your resume, transcript and a statement between 500 and 1,000 words describing the intersection of your interests in public interest work and the MENA region. Please also describe the role of these interests in your future work as an attorney, and how your summer internship would further those goals.

Fellowship applications are due by Friday, February 21st and should be sent by email to Monika Klosiewicz, our Legal Recruiting Coordinator, at mklosiewicz@chadbourne.com.   Applicants are responsible for contacting their chosen organization and obtaining permission to conduct their internship in the summer of 2014. The approval must be sent to Ms. Klosiewicz no later than Monday, April 7, 2014.

At the conclusion of the application review process, the Firm will conduct interviews with its top candidates before selecting the 2014 MENA Fellow. We anticipate that the MENA Fellow will be selected in April.

Chadbourne MENA Practice: Chadbourne’s MENA practice draws upon the combined experience of lawyers in the corporate, securities, project finance, energy, tax, litigation, intellectual property, real estate, employment law and trusts and estates practice areas. Chadbourne counsels businesses with respect to their MENA activities as to acquisitions and divestitures, joint ventures, investments and capital raising activities. Our attorneys offer our MENA clients a wealth of experience in such sectors as financial services, oil and gas, construction and real estate, healthcare, education, technology, logistics, and government, and in such practice areas as privatizations, mergers and acquisitions, corporate and project finance, capital markets, and tax. In addition to our offices in Dubai and Istanbul, Chadbourne serves clients in the region through strong relationships with local law firms in Tunisia, Egypt, Morocco, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. Chadbourne’s MENA practice is staffed with lawyers in our Dubai, Istanbul, London, and New York offices who are fluent in Arabic, Turkish, and French.

In addition to the MENA Fellowship, each year Chadbourne offers a one-year foreign attorney program for attorneys from the MENA/Turkey region. More information on this program is available on our website.

Being selected to be the MENA Fellow does not make you an employee of Chadbourne. MENA Fellows are not employed by Chadbourne, are not eligible for employee benefits from Chadbourne, and are subject to the direction and control of the organization for which they work and not of Chadbourne.  Chadbourne will not be responsible for obtaining work visas or similar documentation for MENA Fellows, whether in the United States or elsewhere. Chadbourne  reserves the right to limit the organizations towards which the MENA Fellow may apply this fellowship grant. This may occur if, for example, the organization selected presents a conflict with Chadbourne’s existing clients.
