Each week CHILLS will offer wine and cheese and a chance to chat with Lauren and a rotating group of NYU Law graduates who are now public interest practitioners

To join the CHILLS event on Friday, please RSVPthrough CSM/Symplicity (search “Elyssa Caplan” for this week on the Events tab).

This week Lauren will be joined by Elyssa Caplan, a Skadden Fellow at The Door, in New York City. To see more info about Elyssa, please read below!

elyssa.caplanElyssa is a former teacher, a social worker, and most recently, an attorney. Elyssa was a Teach for America corps member, and taught 2nd graders in the South Bronx how to read. The experience spurred her desire to go to law school, and she has since been passionate about immigrant youth and access to education. Now that she has completed 26 consecutive years of school (seriously!), she is a Skadden Fellow at The Door, a comprehensive youth development organization in downtown Manhattan. She works primarily with undocumented young people in foster care, and much prefers being a professional problem-solver for teenagers than being a professional student. At The Door, Elyssa represents young people in Family Court proceedings as well as Immigration Court proceedings. Her clients have immigrated to the United States from all over the world, and she loves learning about what each new client has to offer to The Door community. Outside of the office, Elyssa spends time admiring her professional heroes, Hillary Clinton and Ruth Bader Ginsburg. She also loves chocolate cake.
