ASPIRE Full-Tuition Cybersecurity Scholarship for NYU Law Students
The nation’s cyber- and information-security challenges require a new generation of technologically savvy lawyers, who understand both the technological aspects of information security and the privacy and civil liberties concerns that surround the field. NYU School of Law is joining a family of other NYU Schools (Poly, Stern, Wagner, Steinhardt, and Courant) to offer Law School students an opportunity to participate in the ASPIRE program (A Scholarship for Service Partnership for Interdisciplinary Research and Education). Funded by the National Science Foundation, the program aims to produce cybersecurity specialists who understand information-security issues from a multidisciplinary perspective. It provides a two-year, full-tuition scholarship for students who are passionate about cyber and information security and dedicated to careers in state, local, or federal government. In the 2014-2015 academic year, one second-year NYU law student will be selected for this prestigious program, which will provide the following benefits:
-A two-year full-tuition scholarship that covers expenses normally incurred by full-time students, including tuition and education-related fees (it does not cover items such as meal plans, housing, or parking);
-A $25,000 stipend during each year in the program.
The deadline to apply for the program is July 15, 2014.
Students selected for the program will be obligated to enroll in three technical cyber-security courses at NYU Poly during their two-year participation in ASPIRE, for which they will receive some credit towards their JD degree. They will also participate in lectures, discussions, and other programming with ASPIRE students from other NYU schools. Participating students are required to work at a state, local or federal government agency for two years after graduation, and to work in a government cybersecurity internship during the summer between their second and third years of law school. These positions will generally require, among other things, that students be able to obtain a security clearance. The ASPIRE program is restricted to US citizens. More information can be found here.
