NYU is currently recruiting talented students for the Seventh Annual Foreign Direct Investment International Arbitration Moot (FDI Moot), which will be held this year in Malibu, California in late October 2014.
The FDI Moot is supported by several international organizations and institutions as well as prominent practitioners and scholars specializing in the field of international investment arbitration who serve on the FDI Moot’s Advisory Board. The FDI Moot has grown into a high-profile event in the international arbitration community, with winning memoranda published by Oxford University Press and winning teams recognized in leading arbitration reviews.
The FDI Moot involves a hypothetical case in connection with an investment by a private investor in a foreign host state. The FDI Moot spans several months and has two discrete phases: the writing of memoranda for Claimant and Respondent (both due on September 20, 2014) and the hearing of oral arguments (October 24-27, 2014).
The goal of the FDI Moot is to provide students with exposure to the world of international investment arbitration. Students who participate in the FDI Moot develop a sophisticated and nuanced understanding of the international investment regime as well as the mechanisms utilized to resolve these types of disputes. At the same time, the oral component of the FDI Moot offers a unique forum for academics and practitioners from around the world to discuss the latest developments – and assess emerging talent – in this field.
We devote considerable time to helping our team members develop and refine their written and oral advocacy skills, which they then have the opportunity to showcase at private sessions hosted by leading international New York law firms practicing in the field. In previous years, NYU teams have received numerous awards for its memoranda and oral presentations, both at the team level and at the individual speaker level.
More information about the FDI Moot can be obtained at www.fdimoot.org.
If you are interested in applying for a position as team member, please send your resume and a cover letter (motivation and relevant course work) to NYUFDIMootTeam@gmail.com by Wednesday, August 6, 2014.
