What: Asia Law Society and US-Asia Law Institute Student Welcome Event

When: Tuesday, September 16th, 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM

Where: Golding Lounge-West (2nd Floor Vanderbilt Hall)

The Asia Law Society puts on panel discussions (including discussions on jobs in Asia, as well as political and legal scholarship), social gatherings (for LLMs and JDs with an interest in Asia and Asia-focused careers to meet), and Legal Mandarin classes. The highlight of the group is a trip we take every year, subsidized significantly, to an Asian city, to explore legal careers in Asia first-hand. Last year, twelve students participated in a fully-subsidized visit to eight global law firms in Shanghai.

The U.S.-Asia Law Institute (USALI) of NYU School of Law seeks to promote the rule of law and human rights in Asia, including both domestic and international law. The Institute, which is funded by institutional and individual grants, serves as a resource and partner to various Asian countries as they develop their legal systems. USALI is especially known as one of America’s preeminent research centers for the study of law in Mainland China and Taiwan and works to improve popular, professional and scholarly understanding at home and abroad through its publications and exchanges concerning comparative and international law.
