- MFY provides free legal assistance to residents of New York City on a wide range of civil legal issues, prioritizing services to vulnerable and under-served populations, while simultaneously working to end the root causes of inequities through impact litigation, law reform and policy advocacy. - MFY’s Kinship Caregiver Law Project helps to stabilize families, promote children’s security, and prevent children from entering the traditional foster care system by representing families in custody, guardianship, visitation, and Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases. Increasingly, the Kinship Caregiver Law Project helps relatives remove children from the foster care system as well as family members who need assistance challenging foster care placements with strangers.
- MFY seeks legal interns to assist with the Kinship Caregiver Law Project telephone hotline and associated research. Proficiency in Spanish is preferred.
- Time commitment: Ideally, each intern will be available for six hours per week during the remainder of the Fall semester (10am to 4pm on either Wednesday or Friday).
