How Tech Companies are Confronting Human Rights Challenges on the Internet
Co-hosted by the NYU Stern Center for Business and Human Rights, the NYU Stern Latin American Business Association, and the NYU Law Office of Global Programs
Tuesday, October 14 – 4:15-5:30pm
Room TBD
Tech companies are finding it increasingly challenging to protect free expression and privacy online while complying with demands for content restriction and user information. Join us for a conversation with Professor Eduardo Bertoni, Director of the Center for Studies on Freedom of Expression and Access to Information at Palermo University School of Law in Buenos Aires and Global Clinical Professor at NYU Law. Professor Bertoni will discuss human rights challenges on the internet and how they affect tech companies operating in Latin America and globally.
Professor Bertoni is an expert on freedom of expression and a leading voice in the global debate on human rights, internet regulations, and the role of companies. He will be joined by Joris van Hoboken, Microsoft Research Fellow in the Information Law Institute at NYU, an expert on these issues with a focus on Europe and transatlantic comparison. Among other topics they will discuss the recent “right to be forgotten” decision of the Court of Justice of the European Union, and its practical consequences for human rights and business.
Join us to learn about how tech companies grapple with censorship and surveillance demands, and how they can responsibly protect the rights of their users.
Q&A will follow the presentation. Refreshments will be provided.
