To celebrate Pro Bono Week 2014, ACLU litigator Stephen Pevar will deliver a lunchtime talk on the topic of “Lawyering in the Field of Civil Liberties.” For almost 40 years he has been a National Staff Counsel for the ACLU and has litigated some 200 federal cases involving constitutional rights. His areas of specialty include Indian rights, prisoners’ rights, free speech of public employees, and the separation of church and state. In 2012, he authored the acclaimed book, The Rights of Indians and Tribes. Mr. Pevar’s presentation will focus on what it is like to litigate civil rights cases.
Mr. Pevar is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Virginia School of Law. In Spring 2015, he will teach American Indian Law as an adjunct professor at NYU School of Law.
