Update/Reminder for 2Ls Interested in Judicial Clerkships

Effective August 1, 2014 second-year law school students (“2Ls”) can submit applications on OSCAR (https://oscar.symplicity.com). Although judges are free to accept online applications from 2L law students now, most judges are not hiring 2Ls yet.

Judges have begun posting listings on OSCAR for the 2016 term. Many of these judges are very competitive appellate judges (such as DC Circuit judges). In addition, some of these judges (such as Judge Castel or Judge Clement) require a certain number of semesters of grades or post-law school work experience. However, a couple of judges – such as Judge Kavanaugh and Judge Srinivasan – are willing to accept 2L applications now. If you plan to apply to one of these competitive judges who are hiring early, please email Michelle at michelle.cherande@nyu.edu.

Updated copies of the Judicial Clerkship Handbook and Appendix are available in the Professional Development Office|JCO (FH 430) across from the main entrance. Electronic versions can be downloaded from the “Clerkships” tab of your CSM/Symplicity account. If you were unable to attend the session we held in September, you can watch the video here.

Finally, if you are interested in applying for clerkships please click here to complete or update the Registration form on CSM under the Clerkships tab. Completing the form will add you to our mailing list of students interested in clerkships.
