Once again, let me welcome you back for the spring 2015 semester. This is just a reminder that classes begin Tuesday, January 20. As you know, daily add/drop has begun and continues each day between 1:30 pm until 9:30 am the following morning. Daily add/drop will end on January 28 at 9:30 am. If you would like to make a change to your schedule during this time you may add/drop classes and/or place yourself on a waitlist.
Here is a brief checklist to ensure that you have not missed important matters regarding the start of classes.
Class Assignments
Blackboard – Check Blackboard for syllabi and assignments for any courses for which you are registered. Sign on to your NYUHome account and choose the Academics tab to view available Blackboard course pages. Not all faculty post assignments and the only way you will know is if you check on a regular basis. You can only view Blackboard assignments for the courses for which you are registered.
Course Syllabi or Early Semester Assignments – Not registered for a course but considering registering during drop/add? Check Course Syllabi and Early Semester Assignments web page.
Attendance: You should check the course descriptions of your classes regarding attendance. Please note the following:
1. There are some professors who state in their course description that they will drop students if they miss the first class.
2. There are some professors that if you fail to attend several classes, they can require you to drop a course, seminar, colloquium or simulation for failure to attend their classes. You will be withdrawn with the notation of “WD.” Therefore, in order to avoid a “WD’ on your transcript, you are advised to drop a course as soon as you decide that you to do not want to remain in the class in order to avoid a “WD” for a course in which you stopped attending. The faculty request to withdraw a student supersedes the dropping with no “WD”policy.
Schedules of Classes and Course Requirements: Please be sure to do a final review of the spring 2015 course schedule, course requirements, exam schedule, pre/co-requisites and any information which is stated in the course description. Be sure to check the course schedule for any revised room assignments.
Online Course Updates: All changes in the curriculum will and have been posted on the Course Updates web site. You must check the site regularly for updated course information such as new courses, canceled courses, corrections to the schedule, as well as to review requirements, dates, deadlines, final examination information, etc.
Closed Seminars/Colloquia/Simulations: The law school rules permit faculty to admit up to two students to closed seminars/colloquia/simulations during the first class meeting (depending on space availability in the room) outside the regular registration procedures. However, please remember that the limit is two students regardless of the number of instructors, and that we will admit only the first two students who come with permission from the instructor. Please obtain an add/drop form from Academic Services, have the professor sign the same and return it to Academic Services immediately. The instructors should not admit any students until after the first meeting because students may be able to gain admission online using ABRA.
Calendars: Please pay careful attention to the dates and deadlines in the Academic Calendar and Registration Calendar as these are firm and final.
Check Your Waitlist(s) and Conditional Add/Drop requests: If you are happy with your schedule, please remove yourself from any pending waitlist(s) and delete any pending conditional add/drop requests. Remember that as students adjust their schedules a seat may become available in a class for which you remain on the waitlist or a class that you were trying to conditionally add. If there is space in your schedule and you have bid sufficient points ABRA will automatically add you to these classes once a seat becomes available. To check your schedule for pending waitlist requests or conditional add/drop request please check the “My Bids” tab in ABRA. To delete bid go to the “Bidding” tab, remove the point allocation leaving it blank and then hit the submit button at the bottom of the page. Check the “My Bids” tab afterwards to confirm that the unwanted bid has been removed.
Finally, we hope you have a wonderful spring 2015 semester! If you have any questions after reading this email and the above links to the web site please contact the Office of Academic Services: Furman Hall 400, (212) 998-6020 or law.acadservices@nyu.edu.
