The Office of Graduate Affairs is pleased to announce the start of the Global Leadership Skills Series. This Series aims to teach students “soft” skills that are valuable in the workplace for becoming effective leaders.

The first two sessions will be led by Vice Dean Jeannie Forrest (Ph.D. in Applied Psychology). She will provide an overview and practical guidance on emotional intelligence (EQ). These interactive workshops will help you hone the skills of self-awareness and self-management so that you are better equipped to manage the many and varied professional interactions that you will encounter throughout your career.

EQ, also known as “the other kind of smart,” involves a skill set that many lawyers have come to recognize as the key attribute of true leaders in the legal profession. Increasingly, legal employers are screening candidates based on their demonstrated ability to manage themselves and relationships with others. They want to know that they are hiring someone who has the ability to work well with a broad range of personalities in a variety of settings.

Students that attend three out of the four installments of the GLS Series will receive a Certificate of Completion.

Upcoming GLS sessions:
Feb. 9 – Becoming an Effective Leader – Emotional Intelligence for Lawyers, Part II; presenter Vice Dean Jeannie Forrest
Feb 17 – Learning from True Leaders – Do’s and Don’ts of Leaderships; presenter Rocco Andriola JD ’82, LLM ‘86
Feb 23 – Say What? Communicating Effectively as a Leader; presenter Jeffrey Bannon
