Due Process for Foreign Business in China?

This year’s Dialogue will examine aspects of China’s complex relations with the international business community. Using an issue-focused, round table discussion format led by NYU Law Professor Jerome A. Cohen, we will review the extent to which Chinese government agencies deal with foreign, especially American, business entities and personnel on the basis of generally accepted standards of fairness and due process of law.  Specific areas of concern will include the regulation of intellectual property, competition, compliance and investigations, criminal justice, and national security and cyber interactions. Each topic will be introduced by relevant experts, includingMark Cohen, Senior China Counsel, U.S. Patent and Trademark Office; Donald Rosenberg, General Counsel of Qualcomm; Owen Nee, Jr. of Greenberg Traurig LLP and the Columbia and NYU adjunct faculties; Ira Belkin, Executive Director of the U.S.-Asia Law Institute; John Kamm, human rights activist  and Founder of the Duihua (Dialogue) Foundation; Samuel Rascoff, Faculty Director of NYU’S Center of Law and Security; Zachary Goldman, Executive Director of NYU’s Center on Law and Security; James Li, international  law specialist and Professor at Tsinghua University in Beijing; Adam Segal of the Council on Foreign Relations; Michael Posner,Co-Director of NYU’s Center for Business and Human Rights, and other experts who will ensure insightful and provocative discussions.
