Regularly during the school year, the Dean hosts roundtable discussions with prominent guests who have utilized their law degrees in a variety of nontraditional ways. Over lunch with a small group of students, guests speak autobiographically about their work experiences, sharing valuable insight about how they found their chosen path. Please note that the roundtables are informal and off-the-record.

Eli Broverman ’05, who will be the Dean’s guest on Thursday, November 12, is co-founder and chief operating officer of Betterment LLC, the largest and fastest-growing online automated investing service. Mr. Broverman co-founded Betterment with a vision that smarter technology can help people better plan for their financial needs and reach their goals. Through his work at Betterment, he aims to make personal finance one of the first fields to reach the age of automation. Mr. Broverman oversees the company’s business operations, strategic initiatives, and legal matters. He is a frequent guest on CNBC, FOX, and Bloomberg TV and is a regular speaker at leading industry events. In the last year alone, Betterment welcomed more than 25,000 new customers. It currently manages more than $2.8 billion in client assets.

Prior to forming Betterment, Mr. Broverman practiced law at Proskauer Rose LLP, where he advised Fortune 500 companies and their senior management on securities, tax, and compensation matters.

Mr. Broverman received his JD from New York University School of Law in 2005 and his AB in chemistry from Brown University in 2001.

The Dean’s roundtables are open to 18 interested NYU School of Law JD and graduate students. In order to achieve a representational mix of students, we will designate a proportionate number of seats to JD students and graduate students, respectively, to be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The roundtables will begin at 12:30 P.M. in the faculty library. If you would like to attend a roundtable, please sign up in advance by emailing Ken Seagreaves at ken.seagreaves@nyu.edu. Please indicate whether you are a JD or graduate student, and whether you have any dietary restrictions.
