Hauser Global Law School Program Seeks Research Assistants for 2013-2014
The Hauser Global Law School Program is currently accepting applications for Research Assistants for our incoming 2013-2014 Global Law Faculty. The position allows up to 20 hours per week at $12 per hour. Projects will include assisting professors with course materials as well as their own research.

Below you will find a list of faculty with their current location, plus any skills or experience required by the faculty member. Research Assistants will be appointed for fall, spring, or both and may only assist one professor per semester.  The professors will be located at the NYU School of Law during their respective semester terms.

Fall 2013:

David Dyzenhaus
University of Toronto, Canada
Courses: Law and Morality: An Introduction to Philosophy of Law, Rule of Law Seminar
Research: Student will help gather materials for a project in constitutional theory, a paper answering the question ‘What is a constitution?’
Experience Required: Interest in constitutional law. Background in philosophy or political theory would be beneficial.

Mohammad Fadel
University of Toronto, Canada
Courses: Introduction to Islamic Law; Islamic Business Law: Theory and Practice Seminar
Research: Islamic Legal History, Modern Middle Eastern Law, Political and Legal Theory
Experience Required: Fluency in Arabic and/or reading knowledge of French or German is ideal. Background in Middle Eastern or Islamic studies would be useful.

Lech Garlicki
Former Judge of the European Court of Human Rights
Courses: European Court of Human Rights Law; Human Rights and Terrorism Seminar
Research: The dialogue between supreme, constitutional and supranational courts. Identifying interesting examples where different courts have addressed similar problems and arrived at different solutions.
Experience Required: Student will assist in editing texts including language check, footnotes, etc. Native English speaker preferred.

Stefan Vogenauer
University of Oxford, England
Courses: Introduction to Comparative Law; Comparative Contract Law
Research: Comparative Law, European Legal History, European Private Law, Legal Method, Transnational Commercial and International Uniform Law, Phenomenon of ‘third party litigation funders’
Experience Required: Knowledge of/interest in civil procedure.


Spring 2014:

Stefan Bechtold
ETH Zurich, Switzerland
Courses: Innovation Law and Economics; Technology Law and Policy Seminar
Research: Antitrust Law, Intellectual Property, Law and Economics, Law and Technology, Telecommunications Law
Experience Required: Background in statistics, econometrics or other empirical methods is preferred. Some background and interest in intellectual property and/or cyberlaw would be helpful.

Lawrence Collins
Acting Judge of the Supreme Court of the United Kingdom
Courses: Select Problems in Transnational Law Seminar
Research: Conflict of Laws/Private International Law, Foreign Relations Law, Transnational Litigation
Experience Required: Prior courses in conflict of laws/private international law or public international law.

Radhika Coomaraswamy
Formerly U.N. Under-Secretary-General, Special Representative for Children and Armed Conflict
Courses: International Human Rights of Women; Children and Armed Conflict
Research: Human Rights, Gender Studies, Ethnic Studies
Experience Required: Interest in women and children’s issues, know how to post materials on NYU Classes; available to work November – May.

Dennis Davis
Judge President of the Competition Appeal Court of South Africa, Appellate Judge on the Labour Appeal Court
Courses: Labor Law in the Context of Globalization; Colloquium on Globalization, Economic Development and Markets
Research: Constitutional Law, Competition Law, Global Labor Regulation, Constitutionalism, Legal Theory
Experience Required: Interest in either international law/global regulation, comparative constitutional law or economics and law.

Mike Kobetsky
University of Melbourne, Australia
Courses: Tax Treaties; Comparative and International Anti-Tax Avoidance
Research: Taxation Law and Policy, Tax Treaties, Transfer Pricing
Experience Required: Some background in tax treaties and transfer pricing.

Wojciech Sadurski
University of Sydney, Australia
Courses: Introduction to Political Philosophy
Research: Jurisprudence, Comparative Constitutionalism, Constitutional Theory, Philosophy of Law, Political Theory
Experience Required: Interest in, and some knowledge of, jurisprudence (philosophy of law) and/or constitutional law (preferably, also comparative constitutional law). Native English speaker preferred.
