United States Department of Housing and Urban Development Fall Legal Internship
The United States Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Office of Regional Counsel for New York & New Jersey seeks one highly-motivated and public interest-oriented law student for a fall 2013 internship in its New York City office. The Office of Regional Counsel plays a vital role in helping HUD accomplish its mission of creating strong, sustainable, inclusive communities and quality affordable homes for all. Attorneys provide legal services with respect to a number of departmental programs and activities including multifamily mortgage insurance, fair housing enforcement and compliance, litigation and public housing.
The Legal Intern will have the opportunity to work closely with HUD’s Program Attorneys focusing primarily on real estate and transactional practice. Tasks may include: conducting research and writing assignments, drafting and/or reviewing real estate transaction documents, and participating in initial and final loan closings of multifamily projects. The Intern may also perform tasks in other areas of practice, depending upon the needs of the Office. The internship will provide the opportunity for significant written work.
The work schedule will be flexible but applicants should be able to commit a minimum of 10 hours per week for a minimum of 12 weeks. The internship is unpaid.
Second- and third-year law students with an interest in housing and government service are encouraged to apply. U.S. Citizenship is required. Interested students should submit a cover letter, resume, law school transcript and five to ten page legal writing sample to Glenda Fussa, Deputy Regional Counsel, at Glenda.L.Fussa@HUD.gov. Applications will be accepted on a rolling basis but no later than Wednesday July 3, 2013.
Applicants should be prepared to participate in a phone or in-person interview. An offer is contingent upon successful completion of the security clearance process. Please note that participation in this internship does not necessarily lead to an offer of full-time employment at HUD.
