As you may be aware, the Center for Constitutional Transitions at NYU Law has partnerships with a range of international organizations that work in the field of constitution making.  One of our partnerships is with the United Nations Department of Political Affairs (DPA).  More information about our partnerships is available here:  http://constitutionaltransitions.org/partners/

Short-term Job Announcement:  Research Assistant – Policy and Mediation Division of United Nations Department of Political Affairs

The Policy and Mediation Division (PMD) of the United Nations Department of Political Affairs (DPA) is currently developing an online resource centre (“the Constitutionmaker”) that aims to enhance the capacity of UN staff to support inclusive, participatory, transparent and nationally owned and led constitutional processes by providing constitutional guidance, approaches, resources and tools.  Under the overall supervision of the Senior Political Affairs Officer on Constitutional Support at PMD-DPA, the Research Assistant will be responsible for assisting in researching, analysing and uploading documents for the Constitutionmaker.  The Research Assistant hired under this contract will perform the following tasks: 

Responsibilities:

·         Research and gather documentation on constitutions and on UN support to constitutional processes; 

·         Read and analyse collected documents in order to tag with appropriate meta-data, and upload documents accordingly on the Constitutionmaker website;

·         Draft synopses of documents; 

·         Identify documentation gaps in the database; and

·         Any other duties as assigned.

Other information:  The length of the position is preferably for 3 months, though a shorter term is possible.  The position is paid.  Arabic fluency is desirable but not mandatory.

Eligibility: Law students and recent graduates, both J.D. and LL.M., may apply for this position. Applicants must have authorization to work in the United States and must be available for in-person meetings in New York City.
