Furman Hall, Room 214
We invite 1Ls, 2Ls, and 3Ls to find out more about the study of tax at NYU. Vault.com’s 2014 Law Firm Associate Survey recently ranked Tax #1 out of 20 practice areas for job satisfaction. We will explore why tax is a great area to practice in and we’ll also discuss the JD/LLM program.
An LLM can be completed in as little as one additional semester of full-time study, or over several years on a part-time basis while working. There are a few programs which provide funding for full-time JD/LLMs:
Tax Policy Fellowships: Two 3L JD/LLM in Taxation candidates are selected to spend up to six months as an intern (with stipend) at the U.S. Treasury Dept. or the Joint Committee on Taxation during the summer and fall after the JD. It includes a scholarship for the full-time LLM semester, undertaken in the following spring semester.
Tax Law Review Editor: a 3L editor of the tax journal receives a partial tuition scholarship and completes the LLM in one additional semester, also with a partial tuition scholarship. Apply at the end of your 2L year.
Students who can’t make it to the session can also speak with John Stephens, the Director of the Graduate Tax Program. He is located in Furman Hall 344 and can also be reached at (212) 998-6394 or john.stephens@nyu.edu.
