Regularly during the school year, the dean hosts roundtable discussions with prominent guests who have utilized their law degrees in a variety of nontraditional ways. Over lunch with a small group of students, guests speak about their work experiences, sharing valuable insight about how they found their chosen path. Please note that the roundtables are informal and off-the-record.
Hugh Verrier, who will be the dean’s guest on Thursday, March 3, is chairman of White & Case LLP, where he directs the firm’s strategy and operations around the world. White & Case LLP is one of the world’s leading international law firms, with 39 offices in 26 countries. In April of 2015, White and Case LLP was named the Most Innovative US Law Firm in Europe by International Financial Law Review.
Prior to serving as chairman of White & Case LLP, Mr. Verrier was a partner as well as a member of the firm’s Global Management Board. A New York-qualified lawyer, Hugh spent most of his career with White & Case LLP overseas in Indonesia, Turkey, and Russia, where his practice was focused on the development of natural resources. Prior to working for White & Case LLP, Mr. Verrier clerked for Justice Bertha Wilson, the first woman to serve on the Supreme Court of Canada.
Mr. Verrier received his LLM from Harvard Law School in 1982 after receiving his LLB from the University of Ottawa in 1981.
The Dean’s Roundtables are open to 18 interested NYU School of Law JD and graduate students. In order to achieve a representational mix of students, we will designate a proportionate number of seats to JD students and graduate students, respectively, to be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The roundtables will begin at 12:30 P.M. in Snow Dining Room. If you would like to attend a roundtable, please sign up in advance by emailing Ken Seagreaves at ken.seagreaves@nyu.edu. Please indicate whether you are a JD or graduate student, and whether you have any dietary restrictions.
