APALSA 16th Annual Korematsu Lecture
Tuesday, March 29, 2016 | 6:00-8:00 p.m.
Vanderbilt Hall, Greenberg Lounge
The Asian Pacific American Law Students Association (APALSA) invites you to attend our 16th annual Korematsu Lecture Series. This year’s lecture will be led by the Honorable Pamela Chen, United States District Court Judge for the Eastern District of New York. The theme of this year’s lecture is, “Race-Consciousness in School Admissions: The Evolving Debate Within and Without the APA Community.” Judge Chen will explore such tough questions as: Is affirmative action a necessary remedy for historical oppression, or, as its opponents accuse, “social engineering”? What is diversity and how can we best achieve it? Where does the APA community fall in the raging debate over affirmative action? She will review landmark cases and key amicus briefs in a balanced presentation of both sides of the debate. The lecture will begin at 6:00 p.m., with a cocktail reception immediately to follow.
