Regularly during the school year, the Dean hosts roundtable discussions with prominent guests who have utilized their law degrees in a variety of nontraditional ways. Over lunch with a small group of students, guests speak autobiographically about their work experiences, sharing valuable insight about how they found their chosen path. Please note that the roundtables are informal and off-the-record.
Amal Clooney LLM ’01, who will be the Dean’s guest on Thursday, March 24, is a barrister at Doughty Street Chambers in London, where she specializes in international law and human rights. Ms. Clooney represents clients before international courts including the International Criminal Court, the International Court of Justice, and the European Court of Human Rights. Recently, she was appointed to the UK Attorney General’s expert panel to advise and represent the UK government in cases involving public international law.
Prior to joining the London Bar, she worked in The Hague with various UN-sponsored justice mechanisms including the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia, and the Special Tribunal for Lebanon. She also practiced as a litigation attorney at Sullivan & Cromwell LLP in New York after being admitted to the New York Bar. In addition, Ms. Clooney is currently a visiting professor at Columbia Law School where she teaches international human rights law.
She received her LLM from NYU Law in 2001 after receiving her BA/LLB from St. Hugh’s College in Oxford.

The roundtables will begin at 12:30 P.M. in Snow Dining Room. If you would like to attend a roundtable, please sign up in advance by emailing Ken Seagreaves at ken.seagreaves@nyu.edu. Please indicate whether you are a JD or graduate student, and whether you have any dietary restrictions.
