The NYU Center for Cyber Security, a collaboration among NYU School of Law, the NYU Tandon School of Engineering, and the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development is announcing a new interdisciplinary scholarship program for students passionate about cyber security. Students who are selected for this prestigious scholarship program will join a cohort of peers from across the University as they develop a comprehensive understanding of cybersecurity issues that integrates technical and non-technical disciplines. Students will enter the program in Fall 2016, and will earn a $10,000 stipend for each year that they are a part of the program (students will be admitted for one year, potentially renewable for one additional year).
Eligible students must be in their first or second year of law school or in their first year of a masters or PhD program that is a minimum of two years in duration. The Cyber Scholars program is designed to train a new generation of cyber security professionals who will enter either the public or private sectors. The program is designed so that lawyers, social scientists, and business executives may better understand the technological aspects of information security, and the privacy and civil liberties concerns that surround the field. At the same time, technologists will learn more about the legal, social, and political contexts in which they are innovating.
Applicants must submit a resume, transcript, and two references that may be contacted during the interview process. Application materials should be submitted to CCS@NYU.EDU by 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 13, 2016 with “NYU Cyber Scholars Application” in the subject line.
Program Requirements: Non-engineering students selected for the program will be obligated to enroll in technical cyber-security courses at NYU Tandon School of Engineering that are consistent with their academic program (Engineering students may enroll in classes related to cyber security at other NYU schools). They will also participate in weekly cohort meetings with students focusing on cybersecurity from other NYU schools and engage in a substantial research project or construction of a technical tool. The scholarship is restricted to US citizens.
