The Presidential Management Fellowship (PMF) has announced that the tentative application period  for 2014 fellows will be from Tuesday, October 1 through Tuesday, October 15, 2013 (we assume that this period is tentative in case of a government shut-down).  PMF, a two-year fellowship that places hundreds of graduate students in policy and management positions with executive agencies, is an excellent entrée to federal policy-making.  Possible placements include the Department of Defense, the Department of the Treasury, the U.S. Agency for International Development, and the Department of State.  Many PMF positions are policy but NYU grads have recently gotten legal or law-related PMF positions in tax, foreign policy, fair housing, and national security. Detailed information is available at http://www.pmf.gov/becomeapmf/index.aspx.

PMF is holding a “Coffee Chat” with prospective applicants to answer any questions Wednesday, October 2nd, any time between 2 and 4 PM (Eastern Time).  To participate, go to http://opm.adobeconnect.com/pmfapplicantchat/ and select “Enter as a Guest.”

The application process for PMF is substantially different from other government or public interest applications.  The first step is an unusual on-line assessment.  It involves three components (one of which will ask you to write three essays), so be sure you set aside sufficient time.  Also note that the process is designed to recruit policy (rather than legal) professionals.  PILC has collected information from many past PMF applicants, and will post additional information on its website next week to provide guidance on how to succeed in the process. Check the Rocket Docket next week for more information!
