Sign up for the sixth CHILLS session, Friday, March 14 from 4pm to 6pm in Furman Hall, Room 430, for public interest career and academic advice, a morale boost, camaraderie, and fun.
Lauren Burke, an energetic and inspiring NYU Law ’09 alumna, Founder of Atlas: DIY, Developing Immigrant Youth, and PILC Practitioner-in-Residence, will be hosting CHILLS every Friday. Each week CHILLS will offer wine and cheese and a chance to chat with Lauren and a rotating group of NYU Law graduates who are now public interest practitioners.
To join the CHILLS event on Friday, please RSVP through CSM/Symplicity (search “Andy Artz” for this week on the Events tab).
This week, Lauren will be joined by Andy Artz ’09. Andy is an attorney with the United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights in New York City, where he investigates complaints of discrimination in K-12 and postsecondary schools on the bases of race, origin, sex, disability, and age. Andy served previously as a Staff Attorney at Legal Services NYC-Bronx, representing low income families in school discipline, suspension, and disability proceedings. In law school Andy was a founder of the Suspension Representation Project, a director of the Education Law & Policy Society, and an active member of Moot Court. Among his most meaningful courses were the Children’s Rights Clinic, the Family Defense Clinic, and Derrick Bell’s Constitutional Law. Andy’s distinctions include the Kirkland & Ellis Public Service Fellowship, the Order of Barrister, and the Christian Jarecki ’98 Memorial Prize. Andy keeps busy these days trying to keep up with his 18-month old son, Emmett.
