The Frank J. Guarini Leaders in Government Service Institute at NYU School of Law is accepting applications for its 2014-15 class of scholars drawn from J.D. candidates currently in their second year of law school.
We are excited to accept applications for the Frank J. Guarini Leaders in Government Service Institute. Created by former U.S. Representative Frank J. Guarini ’50 (LL.M. ’55), the Institute provides scholarship opportunities and professional training for students who aspire to leadership roles in government (local, state, federal, international) or in think tank or advocacy organizations that shape public policy. The Institute capitalizes on NYU School of Law’s historic strengths in the area of public service by providing financial support, mentorship, and a leadership-focused curriculum to prepare NYU students for government careers.
The Scholarship Program: Under the direction of Professor Samuel Rascoff, scholars gain access to a range of thought leaders and practitioners through a Spring semester one-credit workshop curated by the Institute. Guarini Scholars are required to undertake a significant writing project exploring a public policy issue. Guarini Scholars design an academic program tailored to their interests and receive individualized counseling and connections to alumni and experts in their areas of interest.
Ten scholars will be selected. Each will receive an award of $7,500. Students who receive full-tuition scholarships from other sources may become Guarini Scholars but will not receive the $7,500 award. Guarini Scholars may also apply to NYU Law’s semester in Washington, DC program if they so choose.
How to Apply: The Institute seeks applications from motivated students committed to careers in government leadership. Each applicant should submit materials to Robert Gatto at gattor@exchange.law.nyu.edu:
- Resume, including planned 2014 summer employment;
- transcript, with fall 2013 grades;
- 250 word essay describing your interest in government leadership; and
- contact information for two references (one academic and one employer).
The deadline for applications is 4pm on April 15, 2014
Those who are selected for an interview will be notified by April 25, 2014.
