Are you interested in participating in a due diligence study?
Due diligence is a critical part of every M&A transaction. It’s one of the primary tasks assigned to junior corporate attorneys at large law firms. Surprisingly little is known about the average speed and accuracy of junior associates at this work, and even less is known about best practices for improving due diligence quality. This study seeks to determine due diligence best practices for junior corporate attorneys.
Details
Participants will arrive at noon, grab the provided lunch, and eat while getting trained in due diligence by an experienced M&A lawyer. Participants will then spend the next several hours conducting a mock due diligence contract review exercise, some using slightly different techniques. Drinks will be available at the end. Participants will receive $100 upon completion of the study.
When/Where is it?
Friday, October 24 at NYU Law at noon.
Why would I want to do this?!
Though $100 may seem like the real draw, it’s likely that the diligence training could be even more valuable to you. If you end up at a big firm doing corporate work after graduation, there is a good chance that you will be assigned to one or more due diligence projects, and you may not get substantive training before being expected to complete your first diligence assignment. This training could give you a real advantage against peers as you make your first impression.
Eligibility
The ideal candidate will be a current 3L. LLMs and 2Ls are also welcome to participate.
Wait – who’s running this!?
Shawn Pelsinger ’09, a Jacobson Fellow in Law & Social Enterprise and former corporate lawyer, is running this study. You can contact Shawn at shawn.pelsinger@nyu.edu with any questions.
