“In the end we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Action Zone is a bystander intervention training for risk reduction adapted from the University of Arizona’s Step UP! program. Studies show that in emergency situations most people present would like to help, but very few actually do. Action Zone explores this phenomenon – The Bystander Effect – as well as when to intervene and when not to. Often, sexual assaults, alcohol-fueled incidents and other challenging situations can be prevented or diffused with timely, skilled and appropriate intervention. This dynamic, interactive training prepares participants to be allies in the NYU community.
Each semester, the Health Promotion office holds an open training for members of the NYU community. Training is open to student leaders, faculty, administrators, and staff.
