On Thursday, September 10, 2015, Professor Richard Epstein will give a lunch talk on “A History of Roman Law”. The lunch will be held from 1:00pm – 2:15pm in Furman Hall 316.
In this talk, Professor Epstein will outline the main elements of Roman law as it evolved from the natural law tradition, with special emphasis on the basic outline of the law of persons, property, contract, and tort. The discussion will focus on some of the key passages from the Institutes of Gaius and Justinian which set out the basic roadmap for analysis. The influence of the Roman categories and methods for later legal developments in the common law and civil law traditions will round out the lecture.
Free lunch will be served.
