The Center is seeking applications for student fellowship positions for the 2016-2017 academic year. Applications are sought from current 1Ls and 2Ls, with priority given to current 1Ls.

The Center’s mission is to promote good government and prosecution practices in the criminal justice system and to pursue meaningful reform in areas where there are injustices in the system. The Center accomplishes this mission through litigation, written advocacy and publications on specific topics in criminal law, and by serving as a venue for public policy debates.

Fellows will be involved in all aspects of the Center’s work. Current and past fellows have, for example: assisted with the Center’s sentencing commutation project, the Mercy Project; assisted trial counsel preparing for a federal national security trial; identified cases on the Supreme Court’s docket in which the Center could file amicus briefs; observed or participated in moot courts of lawyers arguing before the Supreme Court of the United States; co-written editorials published in major newspapers and criminal justice blogs; assisted in drafting law review articles; conducted research for the Center’s academic, litigation, and policy work; helped edit a major criminal law casebook; assisted in the preparation of a report on conviction integrity programs; and helped plan and organize conferences and other events involving prominent legal scholars and practitioners. Future fellows will also be involved in the Center’s long-term planning and the initiation of future projects.

Fellows will work with the Center’s Faculty Director, Professor Rachel E. Barkow, the Center’s Executive Director, Deborah Gramiccioni, and the Center’s Senior Fellows (currently Michael Farbiarz and Anne Milgram).

Deadline for the applications is Friday, April 22, 2016. Selections will be made by mid-May. E-mail applications to debgram@nyu.edu.
