For those LL.M. students who are planning on applying for admission to the NY State Bar, an updated version of the guidelines to the new 50 hour pro bono admission requirement were released earlier this week. We encourage you to go online to www.nycourts.gov/attorneys/probono/FAQsBarAdmission.pdf and read them carefully. It is important to note that all qualifying pro bono hours completed by LL.M. students within the year preceding the date of their LLM program commencement will now be counted towards the 50 hour requirement. An updated information sheet regarding the pro bono rule can be found here: www.law.nyu.edu/sites/default/files/upload_documents/NewProBonoInfo.pdf.
We have developed exciting pro bono placements for the fall semester. Some of these have application deadlines, so even though it is early in the semester we encourage you to email Amy Heading, NYU LL.M. Pro Bono Manager at amy.heading@nyu.edu for the list of current opportunities and application details, or search for them online using the CSM Symplicity system (instructions on how to do so can be found at www.law.nyu.edu/publicinterestlawcenter/llmstudents/probono under ‘How to Search for Pro Bono Placement Opportunities on Symplicity’)
