NYU School of Law is currently accepting applications for a Traineeship with the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague. The traineeship program is open to recent graduates of NYU School of Law, including JD and LLM graduates from 2010-2014. It will run for 9 months, from September 2014 to May 2015. The clerkship opportunity carries with it a stipend which helps support the cost of living in The Hague.
Trainees work closely with Justices, assisting them with cases before the court as well as with academic papers and speeches.
Candidates should have substantial knowledge of international law and preferably be fluent in both English and French (but if not fluent in both at least be able to do legal work in both languages).
Application Process:
All applications must include the following:
- Letter of Interest
- Resume or CV
- Transcripts from all universities / law schools attended
- Two letters of academic or professional recommendation (preferably from individuals who can speak to your credentials in the field of International Law)
- Writing Sample: Candidates should submit work that has been submitted for publication or other work of publishable quality. Writing sample should not exceed 15 pages.
The deadline for the submission of applications is January 15, 2014. Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed by a committee of NYU Law professors in late January. NYU Law will then forward one or more nominees to the ICJ. The ICJ will select Trainees from among candidates nominated by universities around the world including NYU. While NYU Law students have historically been very successful in this process, nomination by NYU Law will not guarantee that an individual will be offered a Traineeship.
All interested candidates should submit this documentation in a single email addressed to: pilc.info@nyu.edu. Letters of recommendation may be sent directly to PILC via email or hard copy at:
