6:00 PM – 7:30 PM
VH218

Please join the Information Law Institute and the Electronic Privacy Information Center for a discussion on the recently published book, Privacy in the Modern Age The Search for Solutions.

The threats to privacy are well know: the NSA tracks our phone calls, Google records where we go online, companies constantly lose our personal information, and our children are fingerprinted and their test scores saved for posterity.

Join contributing authors Helen Nissenbaum, Frank Pasquale, Sheila Kaplan and Faiza Patel as they offer insights into the solutions for the most critical privacy, data protection, and surveillance questions of our time. The discussion will be moderated by contributing editor Katherine Strandburg. Opening remarks by contributing editor Jeramie Scott.

Books will be available for purchase and signing.

Dear Students,

Exams are coming up and it’s time to prepare your laptop for the exam period.  In-class exams require the use of a laptop configured with the exam software, Exam4. You must install the latest version and upload a Practice Exam using your Spring 2015 Exam ID by 2pm Tuesday, May 5, 2015.

The Practice Exam will require that you perform all the necessary steps in taking and submitting an exam, and once you have uploaded your exam file, a receipt of completion from the Exam4 software will be generated locally on your computer.  This receipt will only be generated after you upload your Practice exam.  Please follow the link below for Practice Exam instructions.

Visit the Exam4 page for instructions on installing the Exam4 software, taking a Practice Exam, a short How-To video, FAQ and a Features page.

  • If any of your exams require use of multiple choice, or word counts for individual questions, please explore the FAQ and Features

To be considered compliant for Spring 2015 Finals, you must take and properly submit “Practice Exam Final” by 2pm Tuesday, May 5, 2015 and check your status in ExamReporter.  Don’t risk losing time during your exams!  For non-compliant students, the clock does not stop if you encounter a computer problem in the classroom.

Important

  • Not sure of your compliance status? Find that, your Exam ID, and any successful exam uploads at ExamReporter
  • Any previous Practice Exams do not count towards compliance (e.g. mid-semester exams, last semester’s/year’s finals, etc.)
  • Make sure to use your current semester’s Exam ID

Make certain to give yourself enough time before the compliance deadline to go through this process. Contact ITS if you run into any issues.

Good luck with your exams!

2015 Loyola Patent Law Interview Program –Researching Employers (1Ls, 2Ls)

RESEARCHING EMPLOYERS

In order to decide how to bid, students registered to participate in the Loyola Patent Interview Program will want to research employers. The bidding deadline is April 30, so registered students have plenty of time to research the employers and make the most of their 32 bids. Please note that the resume packets the employers receive are in alphabetical order, and do not note the date of the bid. So, students do not gain an advantage by being the first to bid on an employer, and the order in which students submit their bids does not matter.

Students participating in the Loyola Patent Interview Program should conduct their employer research on the Patent Program page, not the Employers page. The filters on the Employers page have not been customized for the program and will not produce meaningful search results. Also, please note that all employers participating in the program will appear on the Employers page, while only the employers interviewing a student’s class year will appear as bidding options on the Patent Program page. Accordingly, doing research on the Patent Program page will ensure that all employers students identify as good matches will be available for students to bid on.

Loyola recommends that students review the employers’ websites to learn more about their various offices and practice areas.

EMPLOYER SPECIAL REQUESTS
Several employers have made special requests regarding how to place bids on their firms. These requests are included in the “Hiring Requirements” section of each schedule and are also listed on the Symplicity homepage.

QUESTIONS

Please direct any questions about which employers your background best suits you for, the various areas of patent practice (e.g. Litigation v. Patent Prosecution), what your bidding strategy should be, etc. to a counselor in the Office of Career Services.  For questions or to schedule an appointment, please email law.careers@nyu.edu or call 212-998-6090.

Apr. 30: 2015 Loyola Patent Law Interview Program (1Ls, 2Ls) – Bidding open for registered students until Thursday, April 30 11:59 p.m. CST (12:59 a.m. EST) (1Ls, 2Ls)

Loyola University Chicago School of law is hosting the 2015 Patent Law Interview Program on Thursday, July 30 and Friday, July 31 in downtown Chicago, Illinois.  For more information on the program, please refer to the Loyola Patent Program website at: http://www.luc.edu/law/career/patent_students.html.

Please note that registration for this program closed on Monday, March 9.  Please do not contact Loyola to request a late registration; if you have questions about registration, please contact the Patent Program Liaison in our office, Jennifer Leibowitz at jennifer.leibowitz@nyu.edu.

Last year roughly 135 employers, 190 law schools, and 1,400 law students from across the country participated in the program. The program is entirely pre-selected, which means that students submit resumes and transcripts to bid on interviews with the employers they are interested in, and employers then review the materials of the students who bid on them and select the students they wish to interview at the program. Last year, approximately half of the participating students were selected for interviews.

The address for the Loyola Patent Law Interview Program Symplicity site is http://law-patent-csm.symplicity.com/students.
