Aug. 6 – Aug. 13: EIW Waitlist Lottery Results and Open Sign Up (2Ls, 3Ls)

The results of the EIW waitlist lottery will be available to students at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 6. The Open Sign-Up system also will open at 4:00 p.m. on August 6.

 

Open Sign-Up will allow you to view all available interview slots for Wednesday, August 12 through Friday, August 14. You will be able to begin signing-up for additional interviews at this time and we suggest you continue to check back regularly for possible changes.

 

Open Sign-Up will close at 12:00 p.m. EST one day prior to the employer’s scheduled EIW date. For example, Open-Sign Up for interviews scheduled on Wednesday, August 12, will close on Tuesday, August 11, at 12:00 p.m. EST.

 

This is a first-come, first-served process administered in real-time via CSM and you will not be able to cancel these interviews once you have signed-up for an interview slot. You will be expected to attend each interview for which you are scheduled; you may NOT cancel an interview obtained via Open Sign-Up so please be sure to carefully read the schedule details and requirements before signing up for an interview. “Trading” or “swapping” interviews is NOT permitted.

 

Open Sign-Up Instructions:
Please note: If you are already logged in to CSM prior to the opening of this module on Thursday, August 6 at 4:00 p.m., you must LOG OUT and log back in to view all available Open Sign Up slots. The “refresh” button will not function in this instance.

  • Select the OCI top link and under Employers/Bidding, choose the Session from the dropdown menu (2015 Early Interview Week), make sure that ‘Show All’ displays in the Employers dropdown menu, then press the Search
  • If there is a time slot available, the Interview Date (next to the Employer Name) will display as a hyperlink. To sign up for an interview via Open Sign-Up, simply click on an available Interview Date, choose a time slot, and click Signup.
  • If no additional interview slots are available, you will not be able to click on the Interview Date.

Peggy Browning Fund’s 17th Annual National Law Students Workers’ Rights Conference

The 17th annual National Law Students Workers’ Rights Conference will be held on Friday & Saturday, October 16 & 17, 2015, at the Conference Center at the Maritime Institute, just outside Baltimore, MD.

With multiple interactive workshops, panel discussions and keynote address, the conference will give each participant additional insight into becoming an advocate for workers and their families. Students will:

  • gain a greater understanding of, appreciation for and interest in the issues facing American workers;
  • supplement their labor and workers’ rights courses; and
  • network with fellow law students, top labor attorneys, professors, nonprofit practitioners and government officials.

Federal Government Opportunity at EIW – Sign up!

Interested in federal government? Want significant, hands-on experience for your 2L summer? Sign up through EIW starting August 6 for an interview with the Pension Benefit Guaranty Corporation (PBGC), a federal agency with a diverse, cutting-edge practice spanning litigation, bankruptcy, employee benefits, administrative law, and transactions.

The PBGC protects the pensions of nearly 44 million American workers and retirees. It is involved in some of the most complex industrial bankruptcies, mergers and acquisitions, negotiations, and restructurings in the country, as well as litigation under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act.

Interested students can sign up for an interview slot using a resume only (no cover letter or pre-screening!) when EIW open sign-up begins on August 6. Interviews with PBGC will be held on August 14.

TA for Fall 2015 Legislative and Regulatory Process Clinic

The Legislative and Regulatory Process Clinic located in DC places students accepted into the program in legal positions in government agencies for the fall and focuses there and in class work on introduction to and experience in the work of government lawyering. The Clinic also holds a three hour class once a week and includes others programs and events over the course of the semester, including speakers from the world of government and politics in Washington.

The TA would assist Profs. Bauer and Katzen primarily with the development of class reading and materials. The work would begin immediately, and while it involves time for some weeks into the semester, it will be more concentrated in mid to late August through early September. In this first phase, 5 -7 hours a week would be expected, and thereafter as needed, but no more than 1-2 hours a week. The work can be done, of course, from New York.

CHRGJ Call for Communications intern

The Center for Human Rights and Global Justice (CHRGJ) is the hub of human rights study at NYU School of Law, the top-ranked program for international law in the country and one of the premier law schools in the world.

The center is now accepting application for communication interns. The intern will work closely with the Managing Director and Assistant Manager to improve the communication strategies of the Center. The research assistant will have the opportunity to learn about effective communication strategies for non-profit organizations and will have access to private events with human rights scholars and practitioners.

Foreseen startdate August 17, 2015

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Closely monitor relevant media outlets and extract information that is relevant for the Center.
Work to raise the Center’s visibility and capacity for outreach by developing new media strategies, enhancing its website presentation and content, and engaging a wide range of social media tools.
Draft publicity materials and reports of ongoing CHRGJ projects.
This position is paid at the level of student assistant.

 

Timing/Hours:

Start and end dates are flexible to accommodate applicants’ class schedules, including exams. The work can be done remotely or in-house, as the student prefers. This position is until the end of the fall semester. Contingent upon performance and availability, there is a possibility to continue in the position beyond the fall semester.

The intern will be expected to work approximately 5 hours per week.

 

Qualifications:

Solid working knowledge of the international human rights system and insight into current issues in human rights discourse and practice.
A proven dedication to human rights issues, as evidenced through previous education and employment, activism, or scholarship.
Excellent written communication skills.
Ability to take initiative, work independently, and use discretion.
Comfort working with multi-media platforms to engage in online social networking, website content, and other forms of relevant information sharing and profile-raising activities.
Interest in non-profit organizational management. Demonstrated administrative and organizational experience.
Experience with twitter is a requirement, experience with WordPress and Hootsuite are a plus.

1) 1 Strike-A-Match Session (April 2)
If you did not attend Strike-A-Match, you must watch the video of the presentation. Please call the receptionist at 212-998-6090 to schedule a time to view the video in our office.

 

2) 1 Career Educational Event
If you have not yet fulfilled the Career Educational requirement, you should have received an email from our office on March 25. In order to fulfill the requirement, please watch a career educational video online (http://www.law.nyu.edu/careerservices/resourcesandforms) and email the name of the video to law.careers@nyu.edu. Please ensure that you watch a video that states, “Qualifies as an EIW Career Educational Event for 1Ls” in the title.

 

3) 1 Mini-Mock Interview with an OCS counselor
If you did not participate in a mock interview (either with an OCS counselor or during a student group practice interview evening) or register for the Attorney Interview Match (AIM) Program, please email law.careers@nyu.edu with the subject line: Mini-Mock Requirement.
