Tax Notes

TaxTax Analysts recently changed access to their web resources (Tax Notes, Tax Notes Int’l, Worldwide Tax Daily, etc.). Previously, one could access their catalog from our campus without logging in. As of August 17th, they will require you to register personally to get to the articles in any Tax Analysts source.

To sign up, please go to the new URL for TaxNotes: https://ezproxy.library.nyu.edu/login?url=http://www.taxnotes.com

In the blue banner at the top, click on SIGN IN. On the next screen, under SIGN IN, type in your “@nyu.edu email” address and click NEXT.

The next screen is similar, but you will look below the username and password entry boxes to where you see: “NEW NYU Law School Law Library User? REGISTER HERE.” You will need to click on “REGISTER HERE” and enter your information, using your NYU email address. You will be able to specify areas of tax and jurisdictions that you are interested in.

New York Law Journal Alerts

Create your own email alerts to the New York Law Journal, National Law Journal, American Lawyer and several other publications on the Law.com website, the umbrella website for these publications. In the upper right corner click “Register” to create your personal account, making sure to use your nyu email address. Then when you log in to the new account you have created, click on “My Account” in the upper right hand corner. You will see an Email Newsletters tab where you can choose the publications for which you want to receive newletters, and a My Alerts tab, where you can create searches and be notified when new content contains your search terms.

Digital Library on Overdrive

Digital Library on Overdrive made its debut last Spring and it deserves mention at the beginning of this semester. Its content is populated by LexisNexis, both treatises and some primary source material, but its most popular titles are its Study Aids  These digital titles can be “checked out” to a laptop or digital device.

Regularly during the school year, the Dean hosts roundtable discussions with prominent guests who have utilized their law degrees in a variety of nontraditional ways. Over lunch with a small group of students, guests speak autobiographically about their work experiences, sharing valuable insight about how they found their chosen path. Please note that the roundtables are informal and off-the-record.

Eric Berry ’08, who will be the Dean’s guest on Thursday, September 3, is founder and CEO of TripleLift, a native advertising and technology company that assists brands in telling engaging stories through the use of visual content. Founded in 2012, the company now has over 60 employees and 7 global offices. TripleLift is credited with developing the first viable alternative to traditional banner advertising online as well as employing an innovative approach to how people buy and sell ads. Since its development, the company has raised nearly $20 million in venture capital financing. Recently, TripleLift was named one of the most promising 100 private companies in America, one of the Top 5 Companies Transforming Advertising by Forbes, and Ad Tech Startup of the Year by 212 NYC and the New York Times.

Prior to TripleLift, Mr. Berry was an attorney at Simpson Thacher & Bartlett. He also worked in product architecture and client services at AppNexus, the world’s leading independent ad tech platform. In addition, he served on the Technology Advisory Board for Ability Beyond Disability, a nonprofit focused on providing cutting-edge and cost-effective support to people with disabilities.

Mr. Berry received his JD from NYU Law in 2008, after receiving both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in electrical engineering and computer science from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).

The Dean’s roundtables are open to 18 interested NYU School of Law JD and graduate students. In order to achieve a representational mix of students, we will designate a proportionate number of seats to JD students and graduate students, respectively, to be assigned on a first-come, first-served basis. The roundtables will begin at 12:30 PM in Snow Dining Room. If you would like to attend a roundtable, please sign up in advance by emailing Ken Seagreaves at ken.seagreaves@nyu.edu. Please indicate whether you are a JD or graduate student, and whether you have any dietary restrictions.
